Is data protection a fundamental right for Third Country Nationals? Evidence
from the use of Eurodac in Italy
Lecturer: Valeria Ferraris, Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the
University of Turin
Place: Domus Nova room 456 (Lucien Mehls)
The presentation focuses on her current work on Eurodac, one of the EU
large-scale IT biometric. It is the oldest EU biometric database. Its purpose
is to help to establish which Member State is responsible for the reception for
asylum applications. On 31 December 2014, there were 2,707,339 sets of
fingerprints stored in the System.
The presentation discusses the legal protection set in the Regulation and its
effectiveness.
The arrangement is open for everyone, and there is no registration. Welcome!
